Summary

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Friend Zone comes an adorable and fresh romantic comedy about one trouble-making dog who brings together two perfect strangers。

Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can’t seem to get her life back on track。 But one trouble-making pup with a ‘take me home’ look in his eyes is about to change everything。 With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself。 Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker’s owner reaches out。 He’s a musician on tour in Australia。 And bottom line: he wants Tucker back。

Well, Sloan’s not about to give up her dog without a fight。 But what if this Jason guy really loves Tucker? As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can’t deny a connection。 Jason is hot and nice and funny。 There’s no telling what could happen when they meet in person。 The question is: with his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?

I'd prefer to give 3。5 stars, but alas, half-stars are not an option。 I definitely enjoyed this one better than The Friend Zone (I'm just not into the whole idea of a friend zone so I think I walked into that one predisposed to not liking it and DNF'd it about halfway)。 This one was far more enjoyable for me, I respected the characters a lot more for one thing。 There are a few stylistic choices that I found a bit distracting。 For one, the repeated use of italics was kind of driving me crazy, you I'd prefer to give 3。5 stars, but alas, half-stars are not an option。 I definitely enjoyed this one better than The Friend Zone (I'm just not into the whole idea of a friend zone so I think I walked into that one predisposed to not liking it and DNF'd it about halfway)。 This one was far more enjoyable for me, I respected the characters a lot more for one thing。 There are a few stylistic choices that I found a bit distracting。 For one, the repeated use of italics was kind of driving me crazy, your syntax should already tell me what is emphasized and italics should be saved for extreme emphasis。 Second, the use of "fucking。" I'm no language prude, I drop plenty of f-bombs, but it felt a bit heavy-handed here。 Like it was a constant reminder that this is an adult book so we can use bad words, rather than feeling organic。 I also hit a point where I felt like the story needed to move ahead already with over 100 pages left, but it did shortly after that and redeemed itself。Despite my own little nit-picking, I definitely enjoyed this one enough to want to read book #3, which I started right away。 。。。more

I don’t know what kind of drug or spell does Abby Jimenez put in her books and in her stories but this was just as heartbreaking, heart warming and as attention grabbing as The Friend Zone 。 But I’m driving to the cemetery as Sloan “celebrates” every important date in hers and her fiancée´s life bef I don’t know what kind of drug or spell does Abby Jimenez put in her books and in her stories but this was just as heartbreaking, heart warming and as attention grabbing as The Friend Zone 。 But I’m getting ahead of myself。 The story begins two years after Sloan lost her fiancée。 Sloan has completely lost the light she had in her and it has become completely broken。 The story begins when she is driving to the cemetery as Sloan “celebrates” every important date in hers and her fiancée´s life before his death when suddenly she is “jumped” by a dog。 After an eventful day, Sloan contacts the dog’s owner, a musician named Jason, and when they finally talk, they instantly connect – mostly because Sloan felt sorry for saying she would keep his dog after Jason didn’t answer his phone for two weeks。 Without wanting to prolong much this part because I will get into (non-spoilery) details more ahead, the rest of the story is about how, firstly, Sloan learns how to deal with grief and guilt for moving on and how Jason gives Sloan the respect and space she deserves and needs while reassuring her, and, secondly, how Jason and Sloan deal with Jason’s fame and the challenges that come with it。 I will say that it was surprising – and refreshing – to see that the whole story was not really focused on Sloan and her grief/letting herself move on。 Obviously, that is half of the story but, like I mentioned before, it only takes half of the story。 Truthfully, Sloan has been dealing with grief for two years when the story in the book begins so she was not necessarily at the first stage (or even third) of grief。 The author did an amazing job to show us that, even though Sloan still felt sad whenever she thought of her fiancée and everything they (and she) went through, Sloan was in the stage of grief where a person has done their grieving but, instead of getting back up and moving on, she has gotten stuck into that life pattern where she mostly lived in grief。 Jason。 Oh, Jason。 Jason did (almost) everything right。 Regarding Sloan and her process of moving on, Jason never pushed her to do anything。 He always offered Sloan the control to do anything and everything and he would just go along with it。 And even Sloan recognizes it。 One thing that made Jason different from Josh (the main male character in the first book) is that Jason was not clueless at all。 Unlike the first book where Josh was nearly completely clueless of Kristen’s feelings for her, in this second book, Jason knew and could feel Sloan’s growing feelings for him and he knew that, even though she still lived in a house full of her fiancée’s reminders, he could tell that she had moved on from her grief and she had just gotten stuck in a in-between (they literally call it this in the book) and he would be next to her while she moved out of that stage。 That is the best thing about this story: Jason never forced Sloan to do anything。 He wanted to be there for the ride and go along with her and, when she felt ready, he would be ready for her。 Just so you can understand a bit of what I’m trying to convey, here’s a few (non-spoilery) lines from the book: “He’d never met the best version of me, and for some reason he still seemed to want to be here。 I was a ghost, wandering the rooms of a museum of the person I used to be, and Jason was like one of the living who could somehow see me and decided to wander the place with me。” “Something must have really affected her today, and I wondered if I had anything to do with it。 She’d said she’d been thinking about me。 I thought about what she said earlier on the phone, that she was in an in-between。 I didn’t care where she was。 I wanted to be there with her。” That was what struck me the most。 The amount of love that grew between them and the amount of “I know you love me/have feelings for me and I also know that you’re going through whatever right now but I will never let you go”。 Obviously, some angst and “drama” happened in this book as well。 Less heartbreaking than the first book (thankfully, I don’t know if I could’ve handled another *that* )。 Even though the ending seemed rushed at first glance, thinking retrospectively, I think it was right。 The author clearly described to us what the two main characters went through and their emotions the weeks they were apart and it showed what their state of mind was after said break。 The last two chapters of the book was literally a “your life can change at any moment” kind of scenes and it is true – our lives can change forever in one single moment。 Does it make it rushed for that reason? No。 Did it felt like real life? Yes。 Like always, Abby Jimenez continued to surprise me about the fact that I am so in love with her stories, with her writing, with everything she puts in her stories。 With just two books (by the time, I’m writing this, she has three books officially out so don’t come at me), I can honestly say she has become one of my authors。 I don’t normally cry in books but, with her stories, I feel like both crying from sadness and happiness。 Her books make me feel whole and they’re the comfort I crave for and need during these tough times。P。S。: I tried listen to the songs she recommended in her chapters titles but I ended crying after one of them。 。。。more

I couldn't put this book down! It's so cliche romcom but I loved ALL of it - the extravagant romantic gestures, the illogical decisions, the drama。 I would smile to myself so giddily as the romance between Sloan and Jason unraveled。 I sat there wanting my own Jason。 My tears welled up during the climax and when I got to the end and epilogue, man my heart had gone through all the emotions as I devoured the last quarter of the book in one sitting。 Aside from the romance, the friendship between Slo I couldn't put this book down! 3。75 ⭐A little too much of a fairytale ending。 In the beginning these characters and their interactions reminded me too much of the main characters from her first novel。 It was almost interchangeable。

This was such a refreshing, easy read。 I love the love story it tells, and just found it to be an easy, enjoyable, somewhat “mindless” read。 Perfect for a beach vacation read or just something quick, refreshing, and simple。

To borrow the words on the back of the book, this was definitely “sweet and achingly romantic—a truly wonderful love story。。。”Not to mention, “a perfect blend of smart, heart-wrenching, and fun。”

I just finished reading and all I can say is “wow”。 I went right into HEAP when I finished The Friend Zone and so happy I did。 These two books flow so well together。 HEAP tore at my heart strings。 I was reading this with a big smile on my face waiting for the hammer To drop - and it did。 I smiled, I laughed, I cried。 Abby and Jason。。。I mean。 How else can you describe them besides soulmates。 And of course - any book that has a dog as one of the main characters always hold a place in my heart。 Thi I just finished reading and all I can say is “wow”。 I went right into HEAP when I finished The Friend Zone and so happy I did。 These two books flow so well together。 HEAP tore at my heart strings。 I was reading this with a big smile on my face waiting for the hammer To drop - and it did。 I smiled, I laughed, I cried。 Abby and Jason。。。I mean。 How else can you describe them besides soulmates。 And of course - any book that has a dog as one of the main characters always hold a place in my heart。 This will 100% be in my comfort read/re-read list。 。。。more

I started this book and had to stop so I could read The Friend Zone first。 I’m glad I did, because the two go together。 And let me tell you what, I have read all 3 of Abby’s books in just over a week。 I am in love with her writing, I can’t wait until her next book is out。 If you haven’t picked up her books yet, it is an absolute must!!

I didn't realize until I was finished with this book that it's book 2 in The Friend Zone series。 Now having finished this on Audible, I would imagine that the first book was "sadder" in its story line than this one。 A fun premise to get the story started, Sloan stops for a dog in the middle of the road, takes him in while trying to locate the owner (via phone and text), and ultimately meets Jason, the dog's owner a couple of weeks later (he's been out of cell service) - friendship and romance en I didn't realize until I was finished with this book that it's book 2 in The Friend Zone series。 Now having finished this on Audible, I would imagine that the first book was "sadder" in its story line than this one。 A fun premise to get the story started, Sloan stops for a dog in the middle of the road, takes him in while trying to locate the owner (via phone and text), and ultimately meets Jason, the dog's owner a couple of weeks later (he's been out of cell service) - friendship and romance ensue in this somewhat predictable but honest and believable story。 I had just finished a very heavy historical fiction set during the US Depression so these young, lovable characters (and dog) were just what I need for my "in between" space。 。。。more
